Super Villain Spotlight: Superboy Prime (Part II)
Welcome back my little primes! Today I bring to you the second part of the saga of Superboy Prime, and I know you have all been waiting patiently for this. When we left off last week, Superboy Prime was confined to a cell made of solid energy and protected by Green Lanterns at all times. There is rarely a person capable and needing of this sort of watch, which is saying something considering the rogues gallery of the DCU. Not all things are meant to stay in chains, and thanks to a certain Yellow Lantern Corps, Prime is broken out and joins up with the fear wielders, becoming a herald of the Anti-Monitor. But wait Arthur, wasn’t the Anti-Monitor the guy who destroyed Prime’s world? Yes indeed he was, and what better way to get close to him than to become one of his pawns, albeit temporarily. He dons a suit similar to his old one that got destroyed, although this one has the symbol of the Sinestro Corp on it, which makes it look so awesome. This is where things start to get fun.
The Art Of Castlevania
If it isn’t obvious by now, I have a thing for old school Nintendo. I’m no stranger to nerd art either. In some cases those worlds collided in such a glorious way, in fact it happened a lot in the 8 bit era. Perhaps you recall the booklet from The Legend Of Zelda or maybe Mario 3 is more your style. Regardless, the art shown on the covers and booklets of Nintendo games were much more important then. It really helped conjure up a world and give you a feeling of what you were about to get into. Today we are going to highlight the original Castlevania series for the NES featuring the cover art of of the first three games.
I don’t even want to get into how incredibly spooky and awesome this first picture is. I’m pretty sure Arthur Harkness would get this tattooed on his back if he could.
Comic Book Panel of the Day 5/23/13
Afternoon Evil Geeks!
Today’s Panel of the Day comes from Batman and Red Hood #20 from last week. I just got caught up last night and I’ve gotta say that I really enjoy the way that DC is teaming Bruce back up with his old partners following his son, Damian’s demise. The panel is so simple, but powerful. Bruce has brought Jason Todd back to where he died with hopes that it may trigger some subconscious memory on how exactly he came back because he misses his son that damn much. This is such a contrast to when Jason died in the 80′s. Although he mourned him, he never tried to bring him “back,” but maybe that’s because he thought it was impossible back then. Either way, I’ve always been a fan of Damian and although I really wish he did not die, I am glad that his death has been taken seriously in the Bat-books and that there has been follow up, rather than just moving on. Granted it was his son rather than just a partner (I know, I know, they are all his sons,) but 10 years ago the story would have ended and another one would have picked up. So I’m glad that the serialized storytelling in Comic Books in general has improved to such a point that this man will end at nothing to bring his boy back.
When I read this, all I could think of was “Why do you think Jason is always such a dick, Bruce?” Ya gotta feel bad for him about this, but Bruce just doesn’t care. He just wants to find a way. So, do I think we’ll see Damian again? Yes, he has the blood of the demon in his veins after all, but it’ll be awhile. And akin to Jason Todd, he may come back as an unfriendly.
See ya next time NERDS!

Evil Geek Book Report: The Origin Of The Hobgoblin
I love 80’s Spider-Man comics. He was a character that I never had any interest in. Last summer that all changed when I picked up a trade called, ‘The Birth Of Venom’. I had wanted to learn more about Spidey’s spiffy black costume. Needless to say, I was floored. The trade strung together issues and isolated pages that pertained to the Alien Costume Saga as well as several of Venom’s first few appearances. I liked that Peter was no longer a High Schooler but not a full fledged adult; he was at an interesting point in his life that made for great situations. More importantly, I was very impressed with the writing and how every issue could be accessible to a new reader right away without it being dumbed down. The ability though to thread along subplots into the overarching storylines is what really sold me. They didn’t need to be wrapped up to fit into a trade paperback; they could go on for as long or as little as needed. It’s something of a lost art in the way modern comics are presented.
Horror of Horrors: 30 Days of Night
Good day to you my little ghouls and ghosts. Today marks the official first entry into the super scary, super gory and super sexy Horror of Horrors! I, as always, am your boy Arthur Harkness, and I invite you to join me in a journey to the farthest reaches of the world…Alaska. Oh Alaska, what you lack in warmth and sunlight you make up for in foot long mosquitos, bitter cold, and everlasting darkness. You are a dream to desolate introverts everywhere. I will make a visit at some point in my life. However, today isn’t about my dreams of the cold and dark, today is about vampires, specifically the good ones in 30 Days of Night. These aren’t your high school vampires kids, these are the legit scary ones; ruthless, merciless, and super strong with teeth that can flay your flesh in seconds. OOoh gives me the chills just thinking about it.
Brand New Man of Steel Trailer Released!
Good Morning Superfans!
The newest Man of Steel trailer has been released and it is entirely different than what we’ve seen so far! This one really focuses on Zod and his plan to capture the Last Son of Krypton. We all think that Batman is gruff and gritty, whereas Superman is a purer symbol and each piece of marketing for this movie up to this point has shown that noble hero that we all love. This newest spot tears the roof off of that nobility and shows us why you don’t mess with Zod! Check it out NOW…

Tales From Westeros – Second Sons
Hello minions…we’re getting dangerously close to the end of the third season of Game of Thrones and I think it’s safe to say that with a few glaringly obvious exceptions, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to judge each character as 100% good or evil. In fact, one of the best examples is right in the opening scene of this episode. Last week our beloved Arya Stark, fast becoming a fierce little animal herself, was captured by the Hound during her escape from the Brotherhood Without Banners. Now we watch as she wakes up on the hard ground, finds a nice sizeable rock, and prepares to smash his ugly (and still peacefully slumbering) face in. She hesitates—and in that moment, Sandor proves that he’s not sleeping by goading her to just DO it already. She loses her nerve. Arya and the Hound are not exactly similar characters but they do have one thing in common—in this dog-eat-dog world (heh), they’re not afraid to subscribe to the survivalist “kill or be killed” philosophy. The Hound drops another bomb too—he’s bringing Arya to the Twins instead of Riverrun, because that’s where her family is now gathering for the wedding. As they embark on this new journey (poor Arya basically lives on the road), the Hound is rather kind to her and tries to justify his previous actions. He tells Arya he saved her sister Sansa from being raped horrifically. Quite frankly, like a lot of characters in the series (as well as the SS, it may be noted) are just following orders. It’s difficult to hate him as he acts sort of fatherly to a young girl that just lost her father.

Who Review – The Name of the Doctor

Good evening my fellow Whovians! And what an evening it is. Tonight marks the much anticipated season finale of Doctor Who, and I couldn’t be more excited. Normally, the Who Review is done by one of our fearless leaders, but in his absence he has charged me, your boy Arthur, to join you all in the monumentous occasion. Will we find out who Clara is? Will we find out the Doctor’s name? Let’s find out! (For the record, I sincerely hope I do not hear the Doctor’s real name. I don’t think my brain could handle it just yet.)
